Ah, the woods were calming and the smell of the redwoods were intoxicating. It was just a relaxing atmosphere to be in after being in the drama filled school. Where everything was about clothes, and who you knew. The Redwood forest was just an escape to those that weren't afraid the wild life. The woods held many mysteries and one was right off the main path hidden by over growth and teens who knew how to cover their tracks.
A truck pulled up at the campgrounds, a small group of friends jumped out of the bed and out of the cab of the truck. They were giggling and shoving each other playfully as they began to walk the hiking path. About thirty minutes had passed and they made it to the hidden path which one of the boys lifted the over growth for the others to pass through. They got to their spot which was a little clearing in the forest. Years ago, a few of the older high school students, now moved off or in college, had moved some logs to the small clearing to set on. Which are now used by the younger generation.
As they threw down a blanket along with some snacks, water, and soda. The kids started to talk about their horrible day and their parents. Someone lit something and started to pass it around. They started to relax and giggle about how some teachers are from outer space. There was two boys and three girls. The two boys were laying on the blanket while one of the girls were leaning on a tree. The other two girls were sitting on one of the logs.
As the day started to dim, one of the boys pulled out a pipe and showing it to the rest of the group. A girl commented that it looked like a dragon, while the other said it was a snake. The other boy just laughed, and then Kaori pulled out her bamboo pipe. "I got this a while back. Put some in it and lets stay for a bit longer." Everyone knew the woods were creepy at night and that the only half safe place were the campgrounds. Since, it was a well lit area. The groups looked around at each other and two shrugged while one of the girls sighed in agreement. One of the boys took Kaori's pipe and filled it then gave it back to her with a lighter.
Since, the day was ending the forest began to cast shadows everywhere making it look like a bad horror movie. Kaori's waist brown hair was around her neck hanging off her right shoulder as she reached for her pipe. Her jeans looked dirty from the shadows dancing on them along with her purple tank top. She put the pipe to her lips and started to lit the pipe. There was giggling cause it was taking a few minutes for Kaori to lit it. But, once lit there was a bright flashing light and then nothing. Everyone screamed when the flashing light happened. The group froze as they were trying to figure out what just happened. Kaori had dropped the pipe when the flash appeared out of no where. She bent down to pick it up and saw something black slide out. She screamed and jumped back, which made her fall backwards over the log she had been sitting on. Her friends rushed to her to see what happened and all Kaori could get out was, "Snake!". One of the boys picked up the bamboo pipe and looked at it while in the background Kaori was saying, "No, no, no!, as fast as she could. The boy turned around and shook the pipe showing nothing there and started laughing at Kaori. She sighed as the rest began to chime in as well. One of the boys said 'no more for you, light weight', while the other found their spot on the ground or one of the logs.
Kaori took the pipe from the boy who had made fun of her first and sat back down on the log. She looked at the pipe and beat it against one of her hands to see if anything was inside. Nothing. What did she see then? She sighed and looked away from the pipe that she let rest on her lap in her hands. Her friends were telling ghost stories now that the sun had almost gone down. When Kaori looked back at the pipe there was a little black snake like thing with a fox face staring at her. She wanted to scream and throw it again, but she held that back and examined the creature with her blue eyes. The snake fox creature nodded at her like it was reading her mind. Kaori jumped a bit with the creatures movement suddenly. "Can you read my mind?", she whispered to the little thing around the bamboo pipe. The creature nodded, and Kaori shuddered. "What are you?", she whispered again and noticed one of her friends looking at her. She smile at her friend and acted like her head was hurting. Kaori's friend shrugged it off and went back to the group which let Kaori look at the black snake like creature who had a fox face. The creature answered, "I'm Kuda"., and with that Kaori quickly shoved Kuda and the bamboo pipe back into her backpack.
